Steaming Up The Kitchen…

Me

I am the ultimate girlie-girl, who just happens to be a little bit of a tomboy. I’m just as comfortable hanging out at a sports bar cheering on the Bears as I am hanging out in the kitchen whipping up something delicious for dinner. I really think that just because you are in the kitchen (or at work) all day, there’s no excuse for not looking fabulous. I’m a firm believer in 4” heels, big diamond earrings (fake for now…), and making Sunday morning breakfast in panties.

My love of cooking definitely started when I was young. I remember sitting in my grandma’s kitchen with something always baking in the oven and something always on the stove. You couldn’t set foot in her house without being offered some food, and I am definitely carrying on that tradition. Maybe it’s the Serbian in me, or maybe it’s just me being the hostess with the mostest. Either way, you’ll never leave my house hungry!

I’m also a self-proclaimed workaholic, which doesn’t leave a ton of spare time for me to cook, so when I can, I want to enjoy every minute of it. That normally includes a glass of wine or a martini, but hey, why not? I also think cooking should be a team effort, so whether it’s a group of friends, your family, or your significant other, cooking is always more fun with someone else in the kitchen with you!

When I’m not working or cooking, I’m at the gym, even if it’s 2 am, crazy, I know. Since I’m such a fitness buff, I try to make foods that are healthy without anyone noticing! Oh, and reading! I love to read!! Food blogs, cookbooks, trashy romance novels (c’mon, we all love ‘em!), you name it, I’ll read it. I’ve woken up a time or two with a cookbook open on my chest and the lights still on…whoops!

My favorite place to find inspiration for dishes is in a restaurant. I love to get all glammed up and go out for an amazing dinner, only to get home and immediately start cooking whatever it was I had for dinner and try to put my own twist on it. Because of that, I think that everyone can take a basic dish and put a piece of their personality on it.

Over the last few years, I’ve realized I have cable TV for no reason other than the Food Network and the Travel Channel. I love seeing Chicago restaurants on some of the shows and have made a point to try to get to as many of the places that have been featured, even if it means waiting in line for 45 minutes in 35 degree rain.

That’s pretty much it for me, but if you stick around and hang out with me in my kitchen, you’ll learn so much more!
